Mercedes McLaren SLR

Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss

McLaren created a unique end to its SLR line with a special model named after the British racing legend, Sir Stirling Moss.  In 1955 Moss won the historic Mille Miglia race driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR.  This new carbon fiber beauty, to be built in 2009, will certainly turn heads as you zip by at a top speed of 218 mph...or come off the red light hitting 60 mph in 3.5 seconds (on the track of course).

According to Mercedes, they will offer seventy-five of the roofless-topless models and if you want one, you must first qualify as a "most loyal of SLR customers," and of course be ready to spend over a million for the privilege.

Jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive, and built in Portsmouth in Southeast England, this series was inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300SLR, based on the WF191 F1 car, although named after the 300SL Gullwing.  The SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport," (sport, light, racing).
