Yes. All of our BMW Z3 convertible tops have the relief pockets in the quarters from 1996-on.
In 1998 BMW redesigned the tops with three improvements:

1. They added relief pockets in the quarters.
2. A stiffener was added above the plastic window on the inside of the convertible top.
3. BMW added elastic straps above the plastic window to supports the tension straps.
